Spirit Animal Maskmaking Workshop

This sculptural workshop is designed to get you in touch with your inner spirit guide, your personal animal totem. No worries if you don't think you have one, it will be revealed! The class is open to all levels of experience. We will be working with clay and in some cases, found or related objects.

The class is divided into two sections on 2 different days:

•  October 29th  sculpture workshop where you will create your mask. 12 noon- 4pm.

•  November 5th  - Return to glaze and raku fire your piece 12 noon till we are done.

A week of prep is needed for the sculptures to dry and to be pre-fired. The Raku firing itself will be an all-afternoon affair with a team of experts assisting. Your day of glazing and firing could be as little as 1 ½ hrs. but more typically a few hours to glaze the pieces and see them through the firing and cooling process. Your place in the firing queue is: first glazed, first fired. Friends and or family are invited to observe.

 It will be helpful (but not necessary) if class members have decided on a spirit animal prior to the class. Some visual research may be helpful but preconceived ideas about how to proceed with developing these ideas in clay may be counter-productive as the process is fluid and requires flexibility from the participants. The instructor will guide you to develop your artwork with the highest possibility of a successful firing. Found objects may be incorporated into the design for addition after the firing. We will be following Covid safety protocols in all these classes. All materials will be provided. Class fee: $100.
